Revolutions in Paris Walking Tour, 1789 - 1871

In France, the Revolution is most often associated with 1789 and its European influence. Yet the country experienced several other uprisings throughout the 19th century, notably in 1830, 1848, and 1871. While earlier movements were largely driven by the middle classes seeking political power, the Paris Commune of 1871 marked a radical turning point. Triggered by the fall of Napoleon III, this final revolution and civil war saw the working class—suffering under rapid industrialization—take center stage, propelled by emerging anarchist and Marxist ideologies. Through a walking tour of Paris’s iconic landmarks, we will recount these transformative events and their lasting impact on contemporary French society.
