Occupation Tour & Museum of the Liberation of Paris

A half-day walking tour tracing occupied Paris landmarks, concluding with a curated, in-depth guided visit through the Museum of the Liberation of Paris.

Following the D-Day landings on June 6, 1944, Allied forces fought fiercely for 83 days in the tough Normandy bocage. A breakthrough finally opened after the collapse of the Falaise pocket on August 21, thus clearing the road to Paris.

However, Paris was not Eisenhower’s target—he aimed for Berlin and feared a trap. General de Gaulle, on the other hand, insisted the capital must be liberated. Following intense negotiations, two Allied divisions were dispatched: the U.S. 4th Infantry Division and General Leclerc’s French 2nd Armored Division. On August 24, they arrived just in time to relieve the Parisian resistance who were becoming both exhausted and low on ammunition.

This is the story we invite you to discover. First, through the actual battle sites that still bear visible traces of the fighting. Then, at the Museum of the Liberation of Paris, where you will explore the Resistance’s secret underground bunker and numerous artifacts from four years of German Occupation.
